Fall Training Camp
Canmore, AB 2026
Last year the Port Arthur Ski Club ventured to Canmore, AB to participate in a Fall Training Camp. The week was a huge success, so we plan to bring back the opportunity to club athletes with even more training days scheduled!
The confirmed dates for ‘on snow’ events will be Sunday November 22 until Wednesday November 25 and again Friday November 27 to Monday November 30. There is a planned day off on Thursday November 26 for a group Hot Springs outing, a day to chill with the family or to let the kids loose in downtown Banff.
Athletes are welcome to attend some or all of the planned training. There will be no reduced fees if athletes choose to reduce their number of training days.
On-Snow Dates: November 22 – 25 and 27 – 30
Open to: Second year U10+ athletes (born in 2017 or prior)
Coaching: 2 coaches, U10/U12 group & U14/U16 group plus guest coaching from local Alberta ski stars.
Athlete Cap: 9 athletes/training group
Accommodations: Families choose the best accommodations for their needs. We recommend booking in Canmore so that the Team is close by. Dave likes to have the odd athlete/parent meeting in the evenings, and it makes it easier if we try and plan a few Team dinners together.
Costs: estimated fees per athlete is $900. Like any out-of-town club event, families attending are responsible for a per athlete share of coaches accommodations, per diem, transportation, training lane time and lift tickets. Accommodations, food, transportation and lift tickets are additional costs and the responsibility of the families.
Lift Tickets: Since we plan to be back at Sunshine and Lake Louise, we recommend purchasing a pass using the BigSki 3 website. As we get closer to September, we will have a better idea as to what days we might be on gates. A separate lift ticket purchase will be needed for Nakiska. Booking lift tickets is NOT recommended at this time we will send more information re: lift tickets.
Getting to Canmore: Dealers choice. Some families fly to Calgary and then rent a vehicle and drive to Canmore (about a 1hr drive). Other families drove from Thunder Bay (2 days – about 10hrs each).
What to expect: Lots of fun! …and hard work.
- The experience needs to remain flexible as no one can ever predict the weather and the snow conditions. We were lucky last year to have great snow at Lake Louise and Sunshine. Unfortunately, there was no snow at Nakiska where we had planned to host gate training – but it turned out for the best. There was lots of time and space for free skiing (training without even knowing we are training!)
- Two training groups – U10/U12 and U14/U16
