Program Overview
The Intro and Race Programs are designed for skiers aged 6 to 18+. Through acquisition of ski racing skills, skiers become strong, safe skiers; they know how to handle changes in conditions and terrain; and they are eligible to participate in ski racing opportunities that occur regularly in our region. Ski racing is not only fun, it verifies their skills and prepares skiers to enjoy skiing on mountains anywhere. Regular training will take place at Mount Baldy which is the home hill of the Port Arthur Ski Club. Some collaborative training and racing opportunities occur at Loch Lomond each year.
PASC provides age-appropriate training and racing opportunities according to the LSDA “Building our Future Development System” to produce well-rounded skiers with skiing skills required to enjoy all forms of alpine skiing. Training and racing opportunities are provided for skiers moving through the National Points and International FIS points racing systems. U14 athletes can qualify for Provincial championships while U16 and older athletes can qualify for Provincial and National championship series events based on performance. PASC follows the Alpine Canada “Long Term Athlete Development Model” supporting progression from basic skills, to introduction to racing, to regular gate training and competition. See Appendix 1 and 2 to determine the appropriate category for your child. Coaching staff will verify that athlete skills are appropriate for advancement to the each level.
